Multiple evanescent white dot syndrome: Clinical course and factors influencing visual acuity recovery
British Journal of Ophthalmology Oct 24, 2020
Bosello F, Westcott M, Casalino G, et al. - In this retrospective single-centre observational study, researchers reported the demographics and the clinical course of patients with multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) and examined for those factors which influence visual acuity (VA) recovery. Electronic medical records and retinal imaging of patients with a diagnosis of MEWDS with a minimum follow-up of 3 months have been reviewed. In total, 51 eyes from 51 patients (41 women, mean age 29.8±7.8 years) were involved. Although the majority of cases have a benign prognosis, incomplete visual recovery is included in the MEWDS clinical spectrum. In the series, poor presenting VA and young age were correlated with poor VA outcome. To validate these results, further study is warranted.
