Multimodal assessment of nigrosomal degeneration in Parkinson disease
Parkinsonism & Related Disorders Sep 18, 2020
Langley J, Huddleston DE, Crosson B, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for investigating neuromelanin-depletion and iron deposition in regions of interest (ROIs) derived from quantitative-voxel based morphometry (qVBM) on neuromelanin-sensitive images and comparing the ROIs with nigrosome-1 identified in T 2*-weighted images. Neuromelanin-sensitive and multi-echo gradient echo imaging data have been obtained. From multi-echo gradient echo imaging data, R 2* was calculated. qVBM analysis was conducted on neuromelanin-sensitive images and restricted to SNpc. According to results, qVBM cluster-1 displays decreased neuromelanin-sensitive contrast and is in a similar spatial position as nigrosome-1. This region possibly corresponds to nigrosome-1 while the second cluster may correspond to nigrosome-2.
