MSCs helped reduce scarring in the cornea after fungal infection when combined with anti-fungal treatment
BMC Ophthalmology Nov 22, 2019
Zhou Y, et al. - In the present study, the researchers analyzed the impact of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (uMSCs) on corneal scar formation in fungal keratitis (FK), infective keratopathy with extremely high blindness rate. According to a previously reported method, the FK mouse model was made. They used natamycin eye drops for antifungal treatment 24 h after modeling. Findings suggested that during the scar formation stage of FK, uMSCs can improve corneal opacity and exert anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic effects.
