Mortality outcomes with intensive blood pressure targets in chronic kidney disease patients: A pooled individual patient data analysis from randomized trials
Hypertension Apr 19, 2019
Aggarwal R, et al. - Among chronic kidney disease patients with hypertension, all-cause mortality outcomes were compared between intensively targeting systolic blood pressure (BP) to <130 mm Hg vs a standard of <140 mm Hg. Researchers pooled individual patient data from 4,983 patients from four multicenter randomized control trials—AASK (African American Study of Kidney Disease and Hypertension), ACCORD (Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes), MDRD (Modification of Diet in Renal Disease), and the SPRINT (Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial). In patients with chronic kidney disease stage 3 or greater who were not undergoing intensive glycemic therapy, decrease in all-cause mortality was observed with an intensive BP target of <130 mm Hg vs a standard target of <140 mm Hg.
