Morphological characteristics preceding exudative neovascularisation secondary to macular telangiectasia type 2
British Journal of Ophthalmology Jun 29, 2021
Hess K, Issa PC, Holz FG, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective study to identify morphological characteristics preceding the development of exudative neovascularisation secondary to Macular Telangiectasia type 2 (MacTel) using multimodal retinal imaging. Eyes with a minimum observation period of 6 months prior to the de novo diagnosis of an exudative neovascularisation secondary to MacTel have been analyzed. Over a median period of 17 months (range: 6–100 months), 20 eyes from 20 patients were examined. Multimodal imaging enables the identification of prognostic morphological features in MacTel prior to the formation of exudative neovascularisation. Eyes that exhibit these characteristics should be closely monitored, and patients should be on the lookout for emerging symptoms in order to detect and treat neovascularization early and thus avoid irreversible visual loss.
