Moderate frequency of anti-thyroglobulin antibodies in the early phase of subacute thyroiditis
European Thyroid Journal Jul 18, 2019
Nishihara E, et al. - In patients with subacute thyroiditis, also referred to as granulomatous or De Quervain’s thyroiditis, researchers evaluated the prevalence of anti-thyroid antibodies. For this investigation, anti-thyroglobulin (TgAb) and anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) were measured with four different immunoassay kits currently used in 40 patients in the early phase of subacute thyroiditis. Data reported that TgAb's prevalence ranged from 37.5 to 67.5%, and the difference depended on the kits used. Investigators found that TgAb initially was moderately positive, but later levels in subacute thyroiditis gradually decreased.
