Modeling of crestal bone after submerged vs transmucosal implant placement: A systematic review with meta-analysis

The International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants Evidence based | Sep 16, 2017

Paul S, et al. - Physicians designed this study to determine differences in marginal bone changes when using submerged or transmucosal dental implants. According to the findings obtained, no evidence was seen of differences between submerged and transmucosal implant placement protocols with regard to changes in marginal crestal bone levels or implant survival at 12 months follow-up. They observed that in many clinical situations it seems questionable whether a closed healing protocol offers an advantage over a transmucosal protocol.
