microRNA downregulation in plasmacytoid dendritic cells in interferon-positive systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid syndrome
Rheumatology Jun 10, 2018
van den Hoogen LL, et al. - Experts gauge the miRNA expression in relation to transcriptomic changes in plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). In SLE and APS, the major producers of IFNα are pDCs. For pDC activation, miRNAs are emerging regulators. In pDCs, lower miRNA expression is shared between SLE, SLE + APS and PAPS and it is associated to the IFN signature. Unique pathways for therapeutic intervention can be opened by a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms/pathways leading to pDC dysregulation in SLE and APS, as in these patients, pDCs are allegedly believed to be a source of the IFN signature.
