Hu BF, Hua CZ, Sun LY, et al. - Researchers aimed at studying the bacteria and fungi causing vulvovaginitis in prepubertal girls via assessing swabs from vaginal introitus obtained from patients with vulvovaginitis. Among a total of 1,235 assessed cases diagnosed with vulvovaginitis, 494 patients (40%, 494/1,235) had identification of 515 isolates. In these prepubertal girls with vulvovaginitis, the two most commonly identified pathogenic bacteria were S. pyogenes and H. influenzae. In older children, prepubertal girls may have more common occurrence of vulvovaginitis caused by C. albicans.
