Metformin for prevention of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy in women with gestational diabetes or obesity: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials
Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology Dec 06, 2018
Kalafat E, et al. - Researchers performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials examining if an association exists between metformin use and the incidence of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP). They evaluated 2536 abstracts and reviewed full-text of 52 studies to include 15 in the review. Outcomes revealed a high probable association of metformin use with reduced HDP incidence when compared with other treatments or placebo. As this analysis included a small number of studies, had a low quality of evidence and displayed clinical heterogeneity, generalization of these results to broader populations cannot be made.
