Metabolic syndrome among type 2 diabetic patients in Ethiopia: A cross-sectional study

BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Jul 23, 2018

Birarra MK, et al. - In this study including a total of 256 type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients attending a specialized hospital, researchers determined the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its determinant factors. They analyzed data collected based on STROBE (strengthening the reporting of observational studies in epidemiology) statement and performed bivariable and multivariable logistic regression analysis. For patients with diabetes, metabolic syndrome was identified as a major health concern in Ethiopia. An increased risk of developing complications such as cardiovascular diseases and premature mortality was observed in these subjects. Predictors included female gender, age between 51 and 64 years old, urban area residence, and being single.
