Meta-analysis of the relationship between abdominal obesity and diabetic kidney disease in type 2 diabetic patients

Obesity Facts Jun 24, 2021

Zhao Q, et al. - Among patients suffering from type 2 diabetes, the relationship of visceral fat area (VFA), waist circumference (WC), waist-hip ratio (WHR) and waist-height ratio (WHtR) with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) was examined via this meta-analysis. Pubmed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were explored to identify relevant studies. Researchers analyzed 14 cross-sectional studies. Findings revealed elevated odds of DKD in relation to abdominal obesity parameters (continuous VFA, WC). Also, more likelihood of having abdominal obesity (categorized using WC or WHR/WHtR) was found in type 2 diabetic patients with DKD.
