Meta-analysis of cognitive functioning in patients following kidney transplantation

Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation Evidence based | Sep 11, 2017

Joshee P, et al. – Analysts in this meta-analysis sought to examine which cognitive domains were impacted following kidney transplantation and how performance compared with non-transplanted patients or healthy controls/normative data. This study gave rise to two key issues: domain-specific cognitive improvement occurred in patients after successful transplantation, and there were important shortcomings in existing studies; the length of follow-up was typically short and only limited neuropsychological test batteries were employed. Moreover, these factors were important in order to support the recovery of cognitive function among patients following renal transplant.
