Meralgia Paraesthetica: Nerve stimulator‐guided injection with methylprednisolone/lidocaine, a double‐blind randomized placebo‐controlled study
Muscle & Nerve Apr 07, 2020
Kloosterziel ME, et al. - Given that meralgia paraesthetica is a mononeuropathy of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, researchers conducted this double‐blind randomized placebo‐controlled study to examine the impact of injection with methylprednisolone/lidocaine compared with placebo. Ten patients received a nerve stimulator‐guided injection with methylprednisolone/lidocaine and 10 patients received saline after randomization. Findings revealed that there was a significant pain reduction in the placebo group. No objective evidence has been found to benefit from nerve stimulator‐guided injection of corticosteroids in meralgia paraesthetica, although this investigation is limited by a small sample size.
