Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Oct 11, 2018
Kapinos KA, et al. - Authors gauged the incremental direct medical care costs for osteoporosis-related fracture observable in high-risk older adults. Especially in the first year after the fracture, a significant economic burden is imposed by the fractures in Medicare beneficiaries with at least 1 risk factor for fracture. Findings suggested limitation of this sample to community-dwelling individuals, fracture history before the study period cannot be controlled. For those in skilled nursing and similar facilities and for those who have had a previous fracture, there is a probability of costs to be greater.
