Medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction: A comparison of single-bundle transpatellar tunnel and double-anchor anatomic techniques for the treatment of recurrent lateral patellar dislocation in adults
Arthroscopy Feb 01, 2019
Li J, et al. - Investigators analyzed 91 candidates for a mean period of 41.11 ± 7.40 months to compare the stability and clinical results of 2 medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFLR) techniques ie, the traditional single-bundle transpatellar tunnel technique (group A) and the double-anchor anatomic reconstruction technique (group B), for the treatment of recurrent lateral patellar dislocation. They observed no recurrent patellar dislocations except in 4 cases with instability symptoms in group A. They noted a significant decline in measurement results (computed tomography) whereas no significant difference was observed between the 2 groups except for the lesser patellar tilt angle in group B. Overall, both MPFLR techniques produced good results in patellar dislocation treatment. They suggested the double-anchor anatomic MPFLR technique more efficient with appropriate patellofemoral joint and better knee function.
