Maternal polycystic ovarian syndrome and early offspring development
Human Reproduction Apr 18, 2018
Bell GA, et al. - Researchers sought to assess if maternal polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is associated with developmental delays in offspring. Diagnosis of PCOS was noted to be linked with enhanced risk of the offspring failing the fine motor domain, largely driven by higher risk in female singletons. A higher risk of failing the communication and personal–social functioning domains was observed among twins of mothers with PCOS compared to twins born to mothers without PCOS. Offspring of women who reported receiving no treatment for their PCOS showed a stronger association with failing the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) than the association among offspring of women who reported PCOS treatment.
