The Lancet Jan 13, 2019
Liang, J, et al. - In this study, researchers assessed 2852 Chinese individuals to assess the trends and ratios of maternal mortality among ethnic minorities in China, between 1996 and 2015. They observed an overall decline of 8·5% per year in maternal mortality with 108·7 per 100,000 live births in 1996 to 21·8 per 100,000 live births in 2015. Among 2852 counties, 2838 (99·5%) had achieved the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 5 pace of decline. They recorded the lowest county-level maternal mortality ratio of 3·4 per 100,000 live births in Nanhu District, Zhejiang Province. They noted a declination in intercounty Gini coefficients for maternal mortality ratio at the national level in China indicating the improved equality.
