Nephrology Jun 30, 2018
Das SK, et al. - In a study sample comprising 1626 offspring (30-year-old) of the birth the Australia cohort study (MUSP), researchers determined the association of maternal alcohol consumption during pregnancy with offspring renal function at 30 years. Study participants were examined for serum creatinine measurements at 30 years and the presence of CKD in these subjects was categorised from stage 1 to stage 5 based on their level of eGFR following the CKD-EPI definition. Findings revealed maternal alcohol exposure during early and late pregnancy was related to the development of mild to moderate CKD in their offspring at 30 years. They found that for female offspring, this association was stronger relative to male offspring.
