Matched cohort study of cataract surgery with and without trabecular micro-bypass stent implantation in primary angle-closure glaucoma
American Journal of Ophthalmology Jan 14, 2021
Salimi A, et al. - In this retrospective matched clinical cohort study, researchers compared one-year outcomes of phacoemulsification alone vs phacoemulsification with implantation of two trabecular micro-bypass stents (iStent or iStent inject) in eyes with primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG). One hundred fifty-eight eyes (79 per group) were involved. The findings of this study indicate that phacoemulsification with implantation of two trabecular micro-bypass stents is more effective and probably more protective than phacoemulsification alone in PACG eyes, shown by significantly higher intraocular pressure (IOP) and medication reductions and lower incidences of IOP spikes in the phaco-stent eyes.
