Markers of mineral metabolism and vascular access complications: The Choices for Healthy Outcomes in Caring for ESRD (CHOICE) study
Hemodialysis International Dec 11, 2019
Gardezi AI, Karim MS, Rosenberg JE, et al. - Individuals from the Choices for Healthy Outcomes in Caring for end-stage renal disease Study who were using an arteriovenous fistula (AVF; n = 103) or arteriovenous graft (n = 116) were involved in order to assess the relationship of mineral metabolites, including 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25(OH)D) and fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23), with vascular access complications. Low levels of 25(OH)D and high levels of FGF-23 and parathyroid hormone were related to a heightened risk of AVF intervention. For vascular access dysfunction and potential therapeutic targets to enhance outcomes, risk factors were abnormalities in mineral metabolism.
