Magnetic resonance imaging T2 relaxation times of articular cartilage before and after arthroscopic surgery for discoid lateral meniscus
Arthroscopy Oct 31, 2020
Nishino K, Hashimoto Y, Nishida Y, et al. - This study was conducted to examine the degeneration of articular cartilage using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T2 mapping before and after arthroscopic surgery for discoid lateral meniscus (DLM). Between September 2013 and October 2017, researchers retrospectively examined the medical records of patients who had undergone arthroscopic reshaping surgery for symptomatic DLM and who had undergone follow-up for ≥ 2 years. A total of 30 knees of 27 patients were enrolled in this study. The results of this study indicated that T2 relaxation time of the lateral femorotibial joint cartilage elevated at 3 and 6 months postoperatively and then had decreased at 12 and 24 months. During the early postoperative period, quantitative MRI allowed us to monitor the substantial changes in the cartilage and the recovery at the distant time point after reshaping surgery for DLM.
