Lung cancer survivors and employment: A systematic review
Lung Cancer Mar 17, 2019
Vayr F, et al. - Using PRISMA guidelines, researchers comprehensively assessed the impact of lung cancer (LC) on the employment status of survivors in this systematic review. Via a literature search of MEDLINE, relevant scientific papers published between January 2000 and October 2018 that involved patients with LC and reported employment status, employment outcomes, work adjustments, or return to work were included. A total of 23 articles (5 longitudinal studies and 18 cross-sectional studies) were analyzed. Findings revealed a marked influence of LC on employment of patients. Unemployment was 2–3 times more likely to be seen among LC survivors vs control groups. A better social and professional prognosis could be achieved with recent therapeutic strategies, and attenuation of indirect costs is to be expected.
