Low serum levels of HtrA3 at 15 weeks of gestation are associated with late-onset preeclampsia development and small for gestational age birth
Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy Apr 28, 2019
Teoh SSY, et al. - Researchers conducted this nested case-control study of 665 samples (330 controls, 335 cases) from the Adelaide SCOPE cohort to examine the predictive value of serum HtrA1 and HtrA3, serine proteases (highly expressed in the developing placenta, at 15 and 20 weeks of gestation) for predicting later development of adverse pregnancy outcomes of preeclampsia (PE), gestational hypertension (GHT), preterm birth (PTB), and small for gestational age (SGA) birth. The cases comprised 92 PE, 71 GHT, 56 PTB, and 116 SGA. Outcomes revealed a possible association of and a potential utility of HtrA3 at 15 weeks for the early detection of LPE development and SGA birth.
