Low dose aspirin is associated with reduced spontaneous preterm birth in nulliparous women
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jun 21, 2018
Andrikopoulou M, et al. - Whether or not low dose aspirin reduces the rate of spontaneous preterm birth (PTB) in nulliparous women without medical co-morbidities is investigated. Researchers performed a secondary analysis of a randomized, placebo-controlled trial of low dose aspirin for prevention of preeclampsia in healthy, low-risk, nulliparous women. This trial included 2543 women. They noted a substantial decrease in spontaneous PTB <34wks in healthy nulliparous women without co-morbidities in association with low dose aspirin. Findings thereby suggest a new therapeutic option for PTB prevention.
