Long-term visual outcomes, complications, and retention of the Boston type I keratoprosthesis
Cornea Dec 15, 2017
Aravena C, et al. - The goal of this paper was to illustrate the long-term outcomes of the Boston type I keratoprosthesis (KPro). A marked visual improvement was yielded via KPro in maximum eyes, with more than 50% regaining and maintaining 20/200 corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) each year through 8 years after surgery. A notable decline was reported in the incidence of each postoperative complication over the first 10 years after surgery. Nearly one-quarter of implanted keratoprostheses were removed. However, over 90% of eyes reaching 5 years of follow-up retained a keratoprosthesis at final follow-up.
