Long-term tumor control with radiotherapy for symptomatic hemangioma of a vertebral body
Spine Jun 06, 2019
Parekh AD, et al. - Researchers analyzed the medical records of ten eligible patients treated with radiotherapy (RT) for symptomatic hemangioma of a vertebral body and reported their long-term outcomes. No increase in tumor size on computed tomography or magnetic resonance scan was defined as tumor control by imaging. No symptoms of recurrent tumor defined clinical tumor control. Outcomes revealed the achievement of long-term tumor control with a low risk of serious complications using RT for symptomatic hemangioma of the spine. When surgery or an interventional radiology procedure is high-risk, radiotherapy appears a good option. The preferred dose suggested by researchers is 45 Gy at 1.8 Gy/fraction.
