Long-term outcomes of two types of metal stent for chronic benign ureteral strictures
BMC Urology May 11, 2019
Choi J, et al. - Researchers compared the outcomes of long-term use of covered mesh stent (Uventa) or a thermo-expandable stent (Memokath 051) for chronic benign ureteral strictures. They excluded cases with malignant obstructions. Covered mesh stents and thermo-expandable stents were placed in 25 ureter units (UUs) and 21 UUs, respectively. Primary success was achieved in 54.9 and 70.4% and overall success in 78.7 and 75.4% in the first year of stent insertion, respectively. The overall success rate was adversely influenced by prior radiation therapy and non-pelvic ureter stricture, both. Overall, findings revealed comparable treatment outcomes of two types of metal stent, particularly in the first year of stent insertion.
