Long-term outcome of scleral-fixated intraocular lens implantation without conjunctival peritomies and sclerotomy in ocular trauma patients
BMC Ophthalmology Aug 03, 2019
Zhao H, et al. - In patients with a history of ocular trauma, one of the main causes of severe visual impairment, with inadequate capsular support during primary pars plana vitrectomy or silicone oil removal, researchers explored the long-term results and complications of scleral-fixated intraocular lens implantation without conjunctival peritomies and sclerotomy. In this retrospective study, 69 eyes of 69 patients were involved. Findings suggested that use of scleral-fixated intraocular lens implantation without conjunctival peritomies and sclerotomy in patients with ocular trauma during either primary pars plana vitrectomy or second silicone oil removal is a useful approach for managing traumatic aphakia without capsular support. Transient corneal edema within the first 3 days after surgery was the most common early postoperative complication.
