Long-term outcome of Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation in eyes with intractably raised intraocular pressure following pars plana vitrectomy
Journal of Glaucoma Apr 08, 2021
Pandav SS, Thattaruthody F, Singh SR, et al. - In the present study, the researchers reported the long-term outcomes of Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation in patients of uncontrolled intraocular pressure (IOP) after pars plana vitrectomy (PPV). Between January 2006 and December 2017, medical records of patients (age 18 y and above) who underwent AGV implantation for uncontrolled IOP following PPV with ≥ 2 years follow-up were reviewed. The sample consisted of 78 patients (78 eyes) with a mean age of 38.06 ± 17.83 years. Data reported that the cumulative probability of success was 92.3%, 80.7%, and 74% at 2, 5, and 10 years, respectively. In patients with intractably elevated IOP after PPV, AGV implantation had a favourable outcome. Trauma-related pathologies were a major contributor to PPV indications and had a higher failure rate after AGV implantation.
