Long-term oral bisphosphonates delay healing after tooth extraction: A single institutional prospective study
Osteoporosis International Jul 08, 2018
Shudo A, et al. - Authors assessed the clinical safety of continuing oral bisphosphonate therapy in patients undergoing tooth extraction. Delayed healing of the extraction socket was seen in the patients who underwent tooth extraction with continued oral bisphosphonate therapy as the cumulative administration period prolonged, but these patients did not develop bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ). Experts did not note any prolongation of wound healing due to systemic risk factors such as glucocorticoid administration and diabetes mellitus. Adverse skeletal events such as bone fracture were not seen.
