Long-term neurodevelopmental and respiratory outcome after intrauterine therapy for fetal thoracic abnormalities
Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy May 10, 2018
Witlox RSGM, et al. - Researchers aimed to assess the long-term neurodevelopmental and respiratory outcome after fetal therapy for fetal pleural effusion, congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation, and bronchopulmonary sequestration. An assessment of neurologic, motor, and cognitive development was performed on children ≥18 months of age. Findings suggested the occurrence of severe neurodevelopmental impairment (NDI) in 15% of this specific high-risk cohort, which is above the range of the incidence of NDI reported in case series treated with other fetal therapies (5%–10%).
