Long-term follow-up after surgical treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis using high-density pedicle screw constructs: Is 5-year routine visit required?
European Spine Journal Feb 14, 2019
Mac-Thiong JM, et al. - In this study, researchers assessed 80 individuals to estimate the impact of routine follow-up 5 years after adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) surgery on postoperative care for subjects treated with high-density pedicle screw constructs. Using the SRS-30 outcome questionnaire, they evaluated the quality of life (QOL) and found similar curve correction and QOL between 2- and 5-year visits. They noticed a single candidate with an asymptomatic undisplaced rod fracture without loss of correction at the routine 5-year visit. They suggested easy access to emergent visits on an as-needed basis if routine 5-year follow-up was not planned.
