Long-term effectiveness and safety of trabecular micro-bypass stent implantation with cataract surgery in patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension: Five-year outcomes
Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Mar 10, 2019
Neuhann TH, et al. - In this prospective nonrandomized consecutive case series, researchers examined 65 eyes of 43 subjects to assess the 5-year outcomes after 1 trabecular micro-bypass stent implantation during cataract surgery in eyes with open-angle glaucoma (OAG) or ocular hypertension. They observed a decline in the mean year 5 intraocular pressure (IOP) by 38% ie, 14.7 mm Hg ± 3.0 (SD) vs 23.7 ± 7.4 mm Hg preoperatively among eyes without additional glaucoma surgery. They also noted 92% of eyes with a mean year 5 IOP of 18 mm Hg or lower and 65% with an IOP of 15 mm Hg or lower. A reduction in medications by 75% (0.5 ± 0.9 medications vs 2.0 ± 1.0 preoperatively) with 4% of eyes on 3 to 4 medications vs 28% preoperatively, and 69% medication-free vs 5% preoperatively were recorded.
