Location of talar osteochondral defects in chronic lateral ankle instability in an Asian population
The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery Jan 22, 2021
Teo BJX, Gatot C, Cheng DZC, et al. - Since Asian patients are more prone to ligamentous laxity, researchers assumed that the morphology and severity of osteochondral defects may be different in this population. Researchers examined intra-operative records of 272 patients undergoing modified Broström-Gould procedure for arthroscopic evidence of osteochondral defects. No osteochondral defect was found in the central zones. No significant gender or age variations were observed between patients with medial and lateral lesions. Microfracture was the most commonly performed procedure. For chronic lateral ankle instability, osteochondral defects are commonly encountered in our Asian patients undergoing surgery. As per the results, contrary to published data, medial lesions are prevalent with no central lesions seen.
