Local infiltration analgesia with liposomal bupivacaine improves early outcomes after total knee arthroplasty: 24-Hour data from the PILLAR study
Journal of Arthroplasty Feb 27, 2019
Dysart SH, et al. - Individuals (n=169) were randomized to assess the outcomes of local infiltration analgesia (LIA) with/without liposomal bupivacaine (LB) after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). They observed that cases receiving LIA with LB had 16% less inclined to need opioid rescue within 24 hours postsurgery. They found an association between LIA with LB and a 91% decrease in opioid consumption as well as a 19% decline in pain intensity. They recorded more satisfaction among subjects using LB in case of pain treatment (84.6% vs 69.2%).
