Liposomal bupivacaine efficacy for post-operative pain following posterior vaginal surgery: A randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled trial
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Oct 05, 2018
Jones CL, et al. - In this randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial including 100 participants who were recruited from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center urogynecology clinic, researchers compared study medication (extended-release liposomal bupivacaine) to placebo (saline) regarding the cumulative post-operative vaginal pain on days 1 and 3 following posterior vaginal wall surgery. In addition, they evaluated vaginal pain on post-operative day 7 and total morphine-equivalent narcotic usage on days 1, 3, and 7. Findings revealed no significant decrease in post-operative pain or decrease in narcotic medication usage with the use of extended-release liposomal bupivacaine in posterior vaginal wall surgeries vs saline.
