Lifestyle indices and cardiovascular disease risk: A meta-analysis
American Journal of Preventive Medicine Sep 21, 2018
Barbaresko J, et al. - Researchers conducted this systematic literature search in two databases in February 2018 in order to summarize the evidence of associations between lifestyle indices and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The meta-analyses included 22 of the 27 identified studies. Physical activity, smoking, diet, alcohol consumption, and body weight were mainly included in the lifestyle indices. Simultaneous adherence to several healthy lifestyle behaviors was noted to be associated with a 66% reduction in CVD risk vs adopting none or only one behavior. Although heterogeneity existed in the indices, consistent inverse associations observed across studies emphasize the significance of adopting healthy behaviors.
