Leisure-time physical activity and life expectancy in people with cardiometabolic multimorbidity and depression
Journal of Internal Medicine Oct 18, 2019
Chudasama YV, Zaccardi F, Gillies CL, et al. - In this contemporary large cohort of middle-aged people with cardiometabolic multimorbidity and depression of a total of 480,940 individuals involved, researchers investigated the relationship between leisure-time physical activity and life expectancy. Leisure-time physical activity at the recommended levels, particularly in individuals with cardiometabolic multimorbidity, had a relation with a longer life expectancy. For those dealing with diabetes and CVD, since modifying lifestyle behaviors is not easy, moderate to vigorous-intensity leisure-time physical activity could give a safe possibility to get involved in pleasant, friendly, and low-cost therapy, which could positively impact individuals. Hence, in individuals with cardiometabolic multimorbidity, reaching the suggested level of physical activity was correlated with a more prolonged life expectancy, however, not in those with depression. For those coping with depression, or depression combined with cardiometabolic multimorbidity, additional research is needed to recognize approaches to extend life expectancy.
