Laser peripheral iridotomy for the prevention of angle closure: A single-center, randomized controlled trial
The Lancet Mar 20, 2019
He M, et al. - A sum of 889 candidates were analyzed to estimate the effectiveness and tolerability of laser peripheral iridotomy prophylaxis against primary angle-closure glaucoma in China in this randomized controlled trial. Researchers observed a low incidence of angle-closure disease among subjects categorized as primary angle closure suspects known through community-based screening. They recorded a modest, albeit significant, prophylactic effect of laser peripheral iridotomy. They recorded no immediate fulmination to vision with a limited interest of prophylactic laser peripheral iridotomy. Hence, they did not suggest widespread prophylactic laser peripheral iridotomy for primary angle-closure suspects.
