Laser-assisted adjustable suture technique in strabismus surgery

Clinical Ophthalmology Dec 15, 2020

Hannon AA, Elalfy M, Elborgy ES, et al. - In this investigation involving 42 patients with exotropia (11 children and 31 adults), researchers sought to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a new technique (argon laser-assisted lysis of the adjustable suture) in strabismus surgery. The recession of lateral rectus muscle was completed and secured to the sclera at the predetermined recession position after suspending it 1.5– 2.5 mm farther. According to findings, the laser-assisted adjustable suture technique had an overall success rate of 88.1% with only 11.9% of the patients exhibiting exotropia. The technique will assist in achieving efficient alignment.
