Lactate dehydrogenase as a marker of ovarian torsion

Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Mar 26, 2021

Mayhew A, Patel N, Hanfling S, et al. - In this study, for the first time, the potential association between raised Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and ovarian torsion has been evaluated. Researchers conducted a retrospective chart review of female patients under 21 years old who underwent operative management of ovarian masses. Of 302 reviewed charts, 50 met inclusion criteria. The included patients comprised 13 (26%) having intraoperative evidence of ovarian torsion and 37 (74%) with no such evidence. Per findings, cases of ovarian torsion with ovarian mass can exhibit mild elevation of LDH.
