Kawasaki disease with coronary artery lesions detected at initial echocardiography

Journal of the American Heart Association Apr 08, 2021

Ae R, Maddox RA, Abrams JY, et al. - Researchers sought to characterize cases with Kawasaki disease (KD) with coronary artery lesions (CALs) identified at initial echocardiography. From the nationwide Japanese KD survey, data were obtained for 3,707 (3.6%) patients who had CALs identified at initial echocardiography. Patients aged < 12 and ≥ 60 months were found to be related to CAL detection. Individuals with delayed hospital visits were identified to be increasingly at higher risk for CAL detection. Based on findings, experts inferred that KD patients could be benefited from a timely diagnosis. However, a higher risk of CAL identification at initial echocardiography was observed in patients with 3 or 4 principal KD signs, particularly in younger patients, even when the hospital visit happened early in the course of disease.
