Jumping to conclusions and suicidal behavior in depression and psychosis
Journal of Psychiatric Research Apr 03, 2021
Sastre-Buades A, Ochoa S, Lorente-Rovira E, et al. - Decision-making (DM) is impaired in suicidal behavior (SB) and jumping to conclusions bias (JTC; a tendency to make hasty decisions based on insufficient information) could be considered as analogous to impaired DM. Researchers here examined the link between JTC and SB in psychosis and other diagnoses (eg, depression) by studying the presence of JTC and SB in a sample of 121 patients with psychosis and 101 with depression. Findings suggest a higher prevalence of JTC in depressive and psychotic patients with history of SB, specially under ambiguous conditions. In individuals who showed JTC, a diagnosis of depression was more frequent than psychosis, and that is linked with older age. Based on findings, JTC might be regarded a transdiagnostic construct evident in different psychiatric disorders.
