Itch in dermatomyositis: The role of increased skin interleukin-31
British Journal of Dermatology Jun 25, 2018
Kim HJ, et al. - Experts evaluated the prevalence of itch in dermatomyositis (DM). They also gauged the role of IL-31 in DM-related itch. A role in DM-associated itch could be played by increased skin IL-31. Moderate-to-severe itch was seen in 50·8% of the total patients and an association of the itch with increased cutaneous severity was noted. Compared with nonlesional skin and healthy control skin, gene expression of IL31 and IL31RA in lesional skin was upregulated in patients with itchy DM. Findings suggested a positive association of IL31 mRNA expression with VAS itch score.
