Is there a relation between lateral epicondylitis and total cholesterol levels?
Arthroscopy Apr 23, 2019
Lee SH, et al. - All patients with lateral epicondylitis (LE) who presented to researchers' institution between 2011 and 2015 were retrospectively reviewed to investigate the correlation of high total cholesterol (TC) levels with lateral epicondylitis (LE). Two hundred eighty-nine patients with LE (mean age, 47.9 years) and 1,077 healthy individuals (mean age, 47.7 years) were included in this study. Observations revealed 2.47 times higher likelihood for experiencing LE among patients with hypercholesterolemia (TC level ≥ 240 mg/dL) than those with normal cholesterol levels (<200 mg/dL) after adjustment for age, sex, body mass index, and glucose level. In addition, they noted a correlation of TC levels with pain level, onset age, and number of corticosteroid injections.
