Is panoramic radiography an accurate imaging technique for the detection of endodontically treated asymptomatic apical periodontitis?
Journal of Endodontics Aug 30, 2018
Nardi C, et al. - Using cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) imaging as the reference standard, authors assessed the diagnostic accuracy of panoramic radiography (PAN) for the detection of clinically/surgically confirmed apical periodontitis (AP) in root canal–treated teeth. For the detection of endodontically treated AP, good diagnostic accuracy, high specificity, and low sensitivity were demonstrated by PAN. Lower canine/premolar and molar areas had the best identified AP located in them, whereas the upper/lower incisor area and the upper molar area had the worst identified AP.
