Iron consumption is not consistently associated with fecundability among North American and Danish pregnancy planners
The Journal of Nutrition Jun 10, 2019
Hahn KA, et al. - Using data from Snart Foraeldre (n =1693) and PRESTO (n = 2969), which are 2 prospective cohort studies of pregnancy planners from Denmark and North America, respectively, researchers focused on the magnitude of the link between iron intake from diet and supplements reported on structured questionnaires and fecundability. They estimated fecundability ratios and 95% CIs, adjusting for confounders, by using proportional probabilities regression models. Findings revealed no consistent link between dietary intake of iron and fecundability, although some evidence showed a positive link mong women with risk factors for iron deficiency. Among North American, but not Danish, pregnancy planners, a small positive link between supplemental iron consumption and fecundability was evident.
