Investigation of factors that influence pain experienced and the use of pain medication following periodontal surgery

Journal of Clinical Periodontology Apr 24, 2018

Beaudette JR, et al. - Authors ascertained the association between anticipated pain and actual pain experienced after soft tissue grafting or implant surgery. They also identified the factors that predict actual pain experienced and the use of pain medication following soft tissue grafting or implant surgery. Results demonstrated that more pain was anticipated by the patients than actually experienced. A predictor of greater anticipated pain was greater nervousness prior to surgery. The pain experienced was predicted with sedation, age and number of pain pills used.
