Inverted internal limiting membrane flap technique vs internal limiting membrane peeling for large macular holes: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Ophthalmic Research Feb 20, 2021
Yu J, et al. - In this meta-analysis study, researchers sought to assess and compare the anatomical and visual outcomes of the inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique and ILM peeling in large macular holes (MHs). One hundred fifty-five eyes in the inverted ILM flap group and 161 eyes in the ILM peeling group were included in this investigation. Vitrectomy with inverted ILM flap technique displayed a higher anatomical closure rate and visual gain, although no difference in visual recovery was discovered at the 6-month follow-up only in the short-term, than ILM peeling in large MHs. As a preferred and routine procedure for the treatment of patients with MHs larger than 400 µm, the inverted ILM flap technique should be considered.
